dhcp and ip problems

Hi, i have some problems with getting an ip- address on a docsis cable modem.
Is there a solution?
I have the same problem on my iMac and on my PM G4 both in System 9.1 and 9.2
When i check the dhcp-logs the first time i get a ip but on my mac i get : 169...... or 0.0.148.7.
When i release and renew the ip i get one.
I called my ISP but they don't know how to solve it!?

you have tried turning the modem off for about one minute. a real minute. and then turning it back on. then trun your mac on. make sure it is in DHCP config and that your ISP also uses DHCP.

if that doesnt work, try trashing your prefs and try the above again.

if that doesnt work, look for some extension conflicts.

Mmm, can't be an extension conflict or a preference file that is corrupt, because we did a clean install of the OS!?
It's just something very strange...

oh yeah, it's not my mac that's having the problem, I'm running OS X of course

But if I start my mac (a PM G4) in OS 9 then it works...

And I tried turning off the modem, I even tried another modem... but still the same...

I just wonder what that ip address is: 0.0.148.7, I never saw that before!?

have you tried it on a (gasp!) PC?? if it worls there then i think that you may need to re-install whichever OS i haveing the problems.

The 0 at the front of the address sounds like it is a private network. BUT, privat networks almost always start with either 10. or 192.
