Is there any way to check what is causing high kernel task CPU usage. Often times, when not doing anything, my kernel task CPU usage will jump to 40+%. Then my MBP starts feeling very sluggish - i.e. animations are choppy, moving the cursor lags, and everything feels slower. This just happened to me 5 minutes ago. My MBP was asleep, I came back to it and woke it up, just had 2 tabs of Safari and powerpoint open in the background, and I noticed everything was sluggish/laggy. I checked activity monitor CPU usage and saw that kernel task was over 40% and windowserver was at 20%...

I'm wondering if there is any software that can let me see what the root cause of this kernel task usage is. I feel like I'm on a wild goose chase trying to figure it out. I'd like to avoid reformatting my MBP to see if it potentially goes away...lol
