My wife's iPhone 4 is in a case that won't allow it to sit in her dock station by the bed...so we bought a dock extender like this one:

We noticed that about half the time, even though music was being sent through the extender just fine, the phone wasn't charging. Two days ago my wife woke up to a completely dead phone. Nothing is charging it. We've tried different chargers, plugging it into the computer, hard resets, DFU mode, and everything else I can think of.

I've decided the dock extender may have messed up the dock connector in the phone, so I'm about to buy a replacement part on Amazon and replace it myself. Before I do that though, is there any way to be certain it's the dock connector? Could there be another reason the phone doesn't respond to anything connected to it?

TIA!
