Hey everyone! First of all, shoutout to all the amazing people in this forum, it's been a lot of help in doing neat things with an iMac G3 I picked up recently. Big ol' blue CRT fella, love it.
Short of it is, the speakers are currently making a kind of "rattling" sound whenever the volume goes above 10-20% or so. Potentially just with one speaker, can't quite tell.
Looking at other posts, it seems it could be related to the foam-rot issue that many of these speakers succumb to. However, I know for sure that I booted this computer many times, heard a decent amount of audio before opening the whole thing to look at the RAM, hard drive, etc. Put it back together and that's when this "rattling" started.
Can anyone say if opening the thing may have permanently set off an un-fixable foam rot-related issue, does that often happen when opening these? Or perhaps I didn't put it back together correctly?
In addition, I have another iMac G3 I could potentially take the speakers from. But if I did that, could maybe the same issue happen due to simply opening the device? I also don't have a lot of electrical experience, so replacing them seems a bit daunting if anyone has any good guides, some videos I've looked up definitely look a bit involved. Thanks for any more info!
