Diagnostic not launching when pressing key

Trying to launch the diagnostic tool on mac as having a number of issues, holding D on startup does not launch it, any other solutions? Running an Early 2011 MacBook Pro with Yosemite.

Option + D

Try Option + D on boot. connect to LAN first.
