Are diagnostics borked for M4 Mac Studios running Tahoe? It seems really odd that two separate machines ordered days apart would have faulty hardware. IMO, this is a software/firmware issue most likely.

Model Number: MHQH4LL/A
System Firmware Version: 13822.61.10
OS Loader Version: 13822.61.10
Activation Lock Status: Enabled

Last week, I got a Mac Studio M4 Max 64 GB RAM w/1TB SSD running Tahoe 26.2 (25C56). After login and setup, I noticed some issues running Fusion (okay normal) and several other apps including mouse lag (Apple Magic inputs), video stutter, Safari lag, etc. After iCloud and indexing settled down, and several reboots, I still had the issue and decided to run diagnostics to ensure it was good before using for production. (Should have done it first, I know.)

So, shutdown, enter diagnostics mode (hold power button → startup options → Command + D), it loads the minimal environment and immediately prompts for a network as none is detected. I have ethernet and wifi (tried both BTW). I accept the terms and conditions screen, and continue to the last diagnostics screen before it should present a list of diagnostics to run, only it doesn't. It just hangs. I never see the list of choices. It just hangs here:
(for reference).

I tried multiple attempts, different wifi/networks, personal hotspots, reinstall, FirstAid the disks, Safe Mode, finally I called Apple Support. The Tech walked me through the same approaches and finally said bring it in and that it wasn't even showing up in his support tools "when" it should during recovery/diagnostics after the internet connection is made.

I went to the Apple Store the next day and the tech ran the same tests, a DFU and some other tools, but ultimately confirmed, the device hangs at that point. He also said somehow, the device did not even show in their support website/tools. I explained what the other tech said and he ultimately recommended a refund and that I order another (they didn't have a similar build in store).

Today, I received the new machine and immediately after signing in, I ran Apple Diagnostics and hang at the same point. I did a recovery install, ran tests and still can't run the diagnostics.

Anyone else seeing this problem? Searches show similar problems for older OS upgrades.
