Diamond Symbol in emails ???

when I send e-mails in Mail I often need to use the "£" and the "$" symbols.

Sometimes when I get replies it turns out that the "£" symbol has appeared as diamond with a question mark in it.

Any ideas how to cure this ?

The only thing you can do is tell the people who are replying to get better email systems, which can handle the characters correctly.
