"Dickinson" with Hailee Steinfeld was one of the first shows to launch on Apple TV+ back in November 2019, and now it will be one of the first shows to get a second season.

Season two of the series is set to premiere on Friday, January 8. The first three episodes of the season will become available on that date with new episodes to come out each Friday after that.

In the show, Steinfeld plays famous American poet Emily Dickinson, and the show humorously explores the constraints of society, gender, and family from Dickinson's perspective. The second season will see Dickinson "pulled out of her literary life and thrust into the public eye."

Along with announcing the season two release date, Apple today confirmed that "Dickinson" is the first Apple TV+ show that has been renewed for a third season. All of Apple's launch shows, such as "For All Mankind," "The Morning Show," and "See" have been renewed for second seasons that will premiere in 2021.

Apple is CRUSHING it!! A new series announcement every day the last two weeks. This is massive. Dickinson has a MASSIVE millennial following on Twitter and is an objectively entertaining show.

S2 in Jan. and Season 3 announced! First Season 3 announcement so far! I'm looking forward to seeing Apple greenlight Seasons 4, 5, and 6 next.

When I signed up for Apple TV+ in early November, I watched For All Mankind immediately (I love everything space and Ronald D. Moore). Then I viewed See, which started promisingly enough (then gradually crashed and burned IMO). With strong words of mouth, I binged The Morning Show a month later.

But I delayed watching Dickinson. The premise and style just didn't appeal to me. Sometime in March, with shelter-in-place, I figured what the heck.

2 hours later, I binged 4 episodes back-to-back. Charismatic cast, snappy writings, and stylish take hooked me instantly.

Sort of amazing that out of all the initial offerings on Apple TV+, Dickinson seems to be the most universally liked. Which it should be. Sort of out-there concept, but executed really well and the cast is great. But they took all these big swings with See and The Morning Show and For All Mankind, and it's a show about Emily Dickinson that is the best of them all.
That is, until Ted Lasso showed up...

Too bad they are going to wait for release date until most free 1 year subscriptions have expired, so people will be 'forced' to remain subscribed.

My daughters liked this show a lot. I thought it was good, but not really my kinda show. I'm an old, so there's that. Glad to see it renewed though. I'm not renewing my free ATV+ sub when it ends, but I might sub again for a month next year if they're still interested in binging the show. Teens lose interest pretty quickly.

No one would be forced to remain subscribed. One of the cool things about a subscription service with no contracts is you can sub and unsub at any time. Sub for a month, binge what you want, unsub. Or keep the sub if that's what you like. There is no forced here.

I’m much too old for the targeted demographic. But the first episode made me look up a bunch of Dickinson’s poetry. That alone made it worth it, and it turns out the show itself is quite funny as well.
I dunno. I’m 52 and I loved it. I love stuff that’s a bit quirky. I get that it’s aimed at a younger group but I’m not ashamed at all to say I really enjoyed it for what it was… a simply fun quirky comedy. I REALLY love The Great on Hulu / FX.

I think that Apple has been outstanding with its comedies. Mythic Quest and Ted Lasso are my favorite shows of the year, Central Park had great music and was pretty funny, Trying is outstanding, and Dickinson is a smash hit success (most beloved of the starting crop of shows, based on audience reviews and word of mouth).

I can't find a weak comedy in Apple's TV+ lineup thusfar, which is absolutely mindblowing. (Unlike dramas, where we had Amazing Stories, Little Voice, and Truth be Told, all of which I thought fizzled out).

Not a particular fan of Dickinson, but I’m hoping this bodes well for the release of For All Mankind’s second season (or any of the other November front runners).
