I have a macbook air 15in. 2023 M2. I have tried all the hints - I don't have webroot, siri works = but I cannot for the life of me get dictation to work. Neither the shortcut nor the f5 mic key work -but the other function keys work. I have turned the dictation thing on and off and I have restarted the computer. When I double press the fn key or the f5 button - there is a sound - but no dictation box comes up and it doesn't work. I am on sonoma 14.3. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you

Thanks. I resolved it by going into safe mode, turning voice assist on and off, then dictation on and off, and then restarting

Thanks to everyone in this thread. Having similar problem on MacBook Pro M3 Pro, 14.5, Dictation won't activate with Globe key: I just get a double tone and dictation does not start.

The problem resolved after messing with the settings for key shortcut for Dictation and Siri (double press globe and press globe+space). I changed these to something else and Dictation worked! Then changed them back and it still worked. ?!

Hi, are you saying this works for you permanently? Mike Quirk with Dictation is that it will work for a few minutes if I take a break and come back it has stopped working. The only way to get it to start registering again is when I go in and toggle between the microphones inputs. It doesn't matter which ones I just have to toggle to something else and magically. It starts working again for a while. I know many are having this problem. Has anyone else come up with a permanent solution to this? I cannot believe they're going into safe mode, and turning on/off dictation and voice assist is correcting this.

is there a video about how to go to safe mode, turning voice assist on and off, then dictation on and off, and then restarting
