iPod touch Did anyone know this???

Ok, So I was putting my 2 gen touch in its case and I accidentally held the sleep key and hit the home button. The screen flashed and there was a camera noise. Lo and behold in my photo library there was a screen capture of the screen my touch had been on. Did I just manage to find something new or am I just a retard? in either case, it's a cool function that I haven't seen anyone talk about.

This function has been on the iPod touch since the 2.0 update in the summer.
