Greetings all,

When I upgraded to the iPhone 4 I gave my 3G to my girlfriend and updated it to 4.0 - thus experiencing many issues. I then downgraded it for her. But I recall Apple was investigating this - did they ever fix it with 4.1? Or is it still not a good choice to update?

Thanks.

dont bother mate,
any ios on a 3g or even 3gs will make it slow.

i guess you're not speaking from experience.

4.1 will run better than 4.0 on the 3G, but it's still not great. however it's actually usable again.

4.0 and 4.1 run perfectly fine on the 3GS. don't listen to this guy

Make sure you back up her pics and info outside of iTunes. I backed up my sisters 3G and then upgraded to 4.1 and when I went to restore none of her images, text messages, or info backed up.

iphone 3g is a slow pos. It's so slow it's unusable, web pages take minutes to load if at all. Damn thing freezes up more than Steve jobs on a date with a woman.

I updated to OS4.1 on my 3G but found that it was not as fast as 3.1.3, so I downgraded last week. My phone is as fast as it's been since 4.0. I swear that I will not download 4.2 until I read from other 3G owners that it's safe. Of course, by then I will be eligible for iPhone 5 or whatever they call it.

4.1 is still slow on the 3G, just not anywhere near as bad as 4.0. If all you want is speed keep the old firmware on there. If you do upgrade do a clean install and disable spotlight search, it helps alot.

I doubt it can be fixed. The new firmware takes up so much resources that the 3G cannot handle and it drags.
Even 3.0 seemed slow on the iphone 3G.
The 3GS and i4 does fine on 4.0+ but I wouldnt suggest for the 3G.
Stick with 3.1.3

Thanks all. The update was okay, it is a bit slower but she's happy to have the folders as she had nine pages of apps.:D
