Did Apple fix Time Machine with 3rd party network drive?

I bought a WD Cloud Drive several years ago, when I was new to Mac, because it claimed that it worked with Time Machine. However, I soon found out that every month, or so, my Time Machine backups would fail, when TM did a verification check, and have to be deleted and restarted. I ended up turning them off because of how annoyed I was with this issue. Last June I decided to turn them on again and see what happens. It has been more than two months and I have not had a verification failure on my iMac, Mac Mini or MacBook Pro. Am I just lucky, or did Apple finally fix this issue?
