As mentioned before, they haven't, especially not for iPhone events.I believe they've been live streaming for a few years now of every event.
But that wasn't the case for the 5 and 5s events (which the OP/thread asks about).It's been confirmed that the event will be live streamed by Apple.

I'm gonna take a long lunch and watch it in my car on my iPhone hooked up to my car stereo. Don't judge me.

How would you guys feel if Apple releases 4.7" iPhone 6 next week and couple of months later the 5.5 Version comes out?

The very nature of that "live" word means that it's not something that is done afterward, but is there as it happens.Live video will be posted here ....
