Did Apple store ask you if you wanted to be sent 'notifications' of future iPhones?

So, I was at the Apple store for my iPhone 7 Plus IUP, one of the questions the sales rep asked was if I wanted to be sent notification in 11 months time if I wanted to have stock reserved as a priority - this was news to me. Naturally, I agreed.

Did anyone else got asked that?
