I have been leaving my iphone 4s in its case "the otterbox defender" since I bought it. I have just realized that its probably getting pretty hot in there.

the first weekend i played with it for about ten hours a day, games and internet.

I have never gotten the overheat screen, not that i know there is one?

should i not use my otterbox anymore is it bad to leave it on when charging and playing games.

do you guys think that I damaged my battery life or my phone possibly.

I don't know that you've damaged your battery life or your phone however Apple does state the following with regards to charging and having your phone in a case:
Let It Breathe

Charging your iPhone while in certain carrying cases may generate excess heat, which can affect battery capacity. If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when you charge it, take it out of its case first.

Link to Apple's iPhone battery info page here.

so are most of you guys charging in your cases?

also is there a overheating warning that pops up on the iphone?

I do not use a case. I did for maybe a week and then decided I preferred the phone "as is", no case.

As for an overheating warning, there is indeed one (see below).
