i recently just purchased a mbp 17inch 2.6 and while its not here yet, I went ahead and purchased 4gigs of ram from crucial.

However, to purchase the ram i went under the mac section and just selected the 2.4 17inch. I did not no there was a 2.6 selection on the site. So the ram that i purchased was recommended for the 2.4. Is this ram still going to be all right.

The only thing that scares me is while i went back to crucial and looked at the recommended ram for the 2.6 it is the same as the 2.4 but the part numbers are diff, besides that thought the specs look pretty much the same.

can anybody else go on and check for me.

That is correct since they both use DDR2-667 SODIMMs.

I used the 2 GB of RAM from my iMac Core Duo in my MacBook for some time before purchasing 4 GB.

Many thanks, Eidorian

Saves me having to buy more RAM :D

I like the iMac but I want MBP portability and a 30 inch screen when I'm at a desk. The iMac was an expensive mistake.

Yes, they'll work.

I mean, ahem. Excuse me.

They'll blow up your entire computer an cause rain of fire to pour into your superdrive.

However, if you'd like to remedy this, I'll buy that RAM from you for.... 60% of what you paid for it. How's that sound?

I'll e-mail you my PayPal.

I hope by "bin" you mean sell on eBay, or MacRumors etc....?

I don't know. I'll probably just give it away. I know quite a lot of people who could do with a pc/new pc. Or I might just trash it completely... clearing out the clutter is cathartic. But I'll probably give it away.

I hated the iMac when I first got it as my eyes got so sore and came close to taking it into the garden for a chat with a pickaxe. I've calmed down since than as I've got used to the screen.

I'll pay the shipping if you'll ship it to the US.
