Uh-oh.

After months and months of trying to decide between a macbook black and (refurbished) macbook pro, I finally opted for a macbook black.

Only, I just now noticed after my order, that the mid range macbook white could be configured the same as the macbook black but at a savings of about $200.

Did I read the comparison of the configuration right or is there an advantage ot the macbook black that I didn't see?

That savings could buy me an airport express or MS Office 08!

Should I change my order or is there a hidden advantage to the higher end macbook?

Thanks for the advice!!

yeah, you're paying $200 for the color

and +40GB HDD storage.

Nah, Macworld benchmarks show that the blackbook performed well :)

Thanks! Honestly, as long as I'm getting at least a bump, I feel better with the product. Otherwise, I'm thinking of better ways to spend that money.

Nowadays yes, you pay a premium of 125$ for the color black (if they are equally specked, the black has 160GB standard) But for when I bought mine (Dec 06') it was a difference of 50$ just for the color (120GB standard in the black one, 80 in the mid-range white). Apparently the hdd prices have fallen. I got mine instead of the MBP because it has the same price tag of the 12" PB it was replacing, although I wanted a MBP.

You'll be happier with the white. Cannot fathom why anyone would
spend that extra money on color.

People spend money for aesthetics. Don't you? If you were to get an ugly hooker for $50 vs a good looking one for $100, they both do the same thing, but the better looking one pleases the senses more!

I personally would go for the black over the white anyday, but then I'm in the $150 difference between blackbook and MBA both with 2GB RAM, and the MBA is much nicer looking

And trust me, you want a machook pro, not a machook. Big difference.

4 things: 1- aesthetics, yes people pay more for beautiful things. 2- material, white ones scratch very very easily (I rather have my MB dirty than scratched) 3- Store availability, what if you wanted 160GB and like in my case online or other purchasing method rather than in store pickup was impossible; you'll get the better spec'd one in the store. 4- personal choice/budget

Well I paid extra to have my new car in Diamond Black Perlescent paint so I can fully understand someone wanting to pay extra for a colour. Besides, you always pay more for black these days. Even though once upon a time everything was black. LOL.

Its black finish gives it additional speed. Run a sticker of a flame along the top of the blackbook. Unofficial tests confirm that the laptop performs 3% better.

What are official tests considered as? Ones done by Apple? Does Apple even do benchmarks?

Well seriously, you can buy any 160(+)GB SATA drive for your macbook and install it yourself, it takes no longer than 5 mins and 3 screws after you take the battery out. I'd never pay someone to do that when its that easy, youtube it I'm sure theres a bunch of how-to vidoes

If you prefer the black, then stick with it.

I prefer the black myself, but am not in the market for a MacBook.

Not true. 160GB 1.8" drives (and anything over 80GB) are a couple of mm thicker than anything up to 80GB. They are not installable in the Macbook Air.

Where does the MacBook Air come into this?

We are referring to the black and white MacBook .

I know, Im familiar with computer interiors, but I honestly (even though it doesn't void warranty) would hate go thru all the hassle of getting the OS in there etc etc, I just did that with my revived PB G4 but is still time consuming.
