My Powerbook G4 12" died a couple of weeks ago, hard drive went into failure. I really thought about just replacing the hard drive, but the itch for a new computer got to me. I bought a BlackBook 2.4Ghz and 250G for $1099 with discount from Apple Education Store while they were still on clearance. I only do web surfing, word processing and some basic family photo editing. But now I am wondering if I should have bought the new MB for a little bit more to have the latest technology. I also purchased some productivity software that is calling for more memory than my previous Powerbook had.

The Blackbook you bought is more powerful (besides graphics which is mostly for games--if you do that get the new one) than the entry level new alu Macbook. Both have way more than enough power for what you do.

You can buy 4GB's for it for $25-30 from Fry's (Crucial--really good RAM) if you want to max it out.

You got a good deal.

Very good deal. Nice pick up.

Definitely max out your RAM as hogfaninga suggested. I've got 4GB in my MacBook, and it's a beast.
