Did I miss my window for jailbreakme.com

I was going to update to 4.0.1 from 3.1.2 when i got home from vacation and use jailbreakme.com but found out that if i updated it would update to 4.0.2 :eek: Is there anyway i can update to 4.0.1
 
i dont think so

apple won't sign the 4.0.1 and the update will fail
forcing you to then update to 4.0.2

looks like you're stuck with 3.1.2 for now if u wanna remain jailbroken
 
Apple stopped signing 4.0.1 .ipsw files for 3GS and 4. So, yes, you missed your window (unless you have a 3G).
 
If you were jailbroken on 3.1.2 and had cydia cache your hashes, cydia probably cached them for 4.0 and 4.0.1 as well.
 
I used Tiny and it seemed to work. I currently have the SHSH iphone 4.0.1 on my desktop. It's about 60 kb. Now what do i do with that?
 
Also How does the SHSH come into play. I dragged it out of the SHSH folder and onto my desktop. Should i keep it in the orginal folder that TinyUmbrella d/l'ed it too. Does tiny umbrella use that to allow me to install 4.0.1 or does it ask me during the installation where the SHSH file is? Thanks

Just a quick question...if Cydia has his files saved for 4.0.1 then could he not just redirect to Saurik's server and have him sign the files....

Why suggest Tiny, is it an easier process or better in some way?

I'm wondering as I'm kinda in the same situation with my iPod touch 2g

I'm on 3.1.3 with it right now and just jailbroke with Spirit today....I want to do a fresh restore with 3.1.3 so once Cydia has my files saved for 3.1.3 I was going to redirect to Saurik's servers to restore and then rejailbreak again.

Or would you also recommend me to do this through Tiny too?

Or is my method fine enough?
 
Both methods work. I think it was assumed he only had SHSH on dekstop and not on Saurik. If they are on file with Saurik then changing the host file and having Saurik sign for the official update is easier.
 
I'm getting a 3014 error when I shift restore in Itunes. I have the TSS running in the background and i got the confirm on the 4.0.1 SHSH with tinyumbrella and i'm using ipsw 4.0.1 that i downloaded from the link provided. Any clues to why i'm getting this error?

Use TinyUmbrella to kick it out of restore mode

Yes, either way.
Whatever one you feel comfortable with.
Either editing his hosts file or just click start TSS server on TU.
