I have a baseline 2011 27-inch iMac with 14GB (4x3+2) of RAM running Lion, and for the first time since I bought it in May, OS X gave me the no memory error, forcing me to quit some apps...though even then Finder was unresponsive. I had to force shut down by holding the power button behind the Mac.
At the time of the error, I had three VMs running, three small Excel worksheets, Wunderlist, Evernote, Day One, Bento and Steam (no game, just the front page) running. I was also having another Mac copy 78GB of data to the iMac via wireless as well.
Did I overdo it?
