Last summer I broke my Macbook pro 15" 2012 display and decided to replace it myself. I followed the ifix guide and everything was working fine. So I thought. Went to use Skype a few days ago and it said that my webcam WAS NOT connected even though the cable was plugged and the backlight on my keyboard was working just fine, was bale to use F5 and F6 to lower or brighten it with no problem.
Today I decided to try reseting that cable in its slot thinking that maybe it wasn't plugged in all the way. Took of the bottom, pulled out the plug and plugged it back it, it didn't seem like it was in all the way so i grabbed a flat head screw driver and applied a slight (barely anything) amount of pressure to each side of the wire to make sure it was in all the way on both sides. Well I ****ed that up because the slot the plug goes into that sits on the logic board popped off way too easily.
1) Could I just resolder this connector back on to the mother board or could I use a type of super glue or anything without needing professional help and getting raped by their charges? (anything i should know or be careful of if i go this route?)
I thought this would just mean that I can't use my webcam, never used the damn thing in the 3 years I've had this computer. So i just ignored it, put it back together, turned it back on and everything seemed to work fine until a few hours later, AKA now, when i realized my backlight on my keyboard is not working. I know its not the end of the world but still very frustrating.
Did some research, found out that this cable is also used for the light sensor, again no big deal because I manually adjust both my screen brightness and keyboard brightness. Made sure that the option in settings where the light sensor will adjust the brightness of the keyboard was off. Still no change. Both buttons work and I can control the brightness of my screen with no problem.
I tried the SMC and NVRAM reset, a standard reset, and other simple solutions that others have tried.
So did I screw myself over or is this an easy fix that I can do myself? I have everything i need to solder but the but its not a precision soldering iron, can i still do it with this or no?
Thanks for the help.
