i clicked backup but it didn't (plus its a new computer) although the settings carried on over to ios 8, found out i can't use without jailbreak. i downgraded to 7.1.2 and everything was lost. i know they are still in ios 8. is there a way i can backup what i backed up in ios 8 and carry back to 7.1.2??? anything is okay including jailbreak options? thanks

I'm in the same boat. I want to downgrade to 7.1.2 but if I do so all my settings are lost.
Most things - data, apps, music, photos - I can back-up from iTunes. And re-entering email settings etc is a pain but doable.
But not Messages apparently. And I have around 4 years of Messages that I'd really like to keep.

there's ways of doing it like using a program to pull the sms.dlyb (something like that) from ios8 backup and add it into iOS7 backup. Search the net. iTools used to have this function but it's been awhile.
