I took my 2016 15" MBP to an Authorized Apple Retail Service here in Costa Rica to have the butterfly keyboard and battery fixed as per Apple's warranty. The limited hardware warranty and AppleCare+ had already expired. With that said, this retailer told me Apple authorized a free replacement of the keyboard due to the known issues and the replacement of the battery.
They went ahead and did the replacement of these two parts and gave me the computer back. I rarely touched it as I was about to sell it and half a week later the display started doing this:
I took it back to the same place, the engineer tested everything and said everything was perfect, that the screen is now damaged. They sent me a quote for $715 to replace the screen. They don't want to process it for free because they said Apple stopped the warranty process due to two dings on the top lid corners of the screen, which have been there for several years now and never caused any issues.
I am going to take it to another Authorized Retailer to see what they say but this is pretty crazy. It was working perfectly before the "warranty maintenance". It feels like they probably broke something or left something just waiting to die on its own. Is there a way to prove this?
