Hi, fellow nerds –

watchOS has never supported fully custom watch faces, but the Photos face traditionally allowed you to fill the watch face with any image, such as a mocked-up face with a blank area for the digital time, in a relatively predictable manner.

In watchOS 11, it seems the "upgraded" Photos face opinionatedly positions, scales and crops the image based on the selected size for the time. That's sometimes cool, but it entirely precludes the ability to use custom images as intended. Though faces made before watchOS 11 seem to be preserved, the ability to make new faces in the traditional manner seems to have been removed entirely. It seems too disappointing to be true.

Is there really no supported or easy way to reliably make pseudo-custom faces in watchOS 11?
