Haven't seen anyone mention this yet but a couple of live blogs had been asking about it during the presentation and were awaiting hands on reviews. Any word?

You know I kind of just assumed myself that it would be glass considering it has the same form factor as the 4. Good question.

If you watched the video, Phil talks about the same glass back..

It would have been nice to see a similar material used in the screen for the SGSII used for the iPhone 4S front and back. We have a demo model at work and I beat the screen on the corner of shelves day in and day out. Have barely scratched it.

Glass

Why would Apple degrade from the previous version by adding a plastic back?

Maybe because it's the sensible thing to do ? Having a phone covered in glass is possibly one of the stupidest design decisions i've ever seen. Sure, it makes the device feel premium, but it also makes it incredibly prone to scratches and smashes.

That's why manufacturers produce cases...

Tell that to the thousands of people with naked iPhones and no scratches...

I guess the point is that a lot of people believe you shouldn't have to use a case with your phone. With the SGSII's remarkably durable screen, most people that I sell one to do not buy a case. (Don't worry, I sell them other crap. :D)

Risky people......

I always buy cases AND screen protectors PRIOR to phone unboxing and put them on right after.

So no scratches, no fingerprints ever unless i need to wash every few months or so.

Let me put it this way:

It's the Verizon CDMA iPhone 4, except with an A5 chip inside and a 8MP camera.

(At least from what we know. No word yet on RAM.)

There are also thousands of people who smoke 20 cigarettes a day and never get lung cancer, does that mean cigarettes don't increase the chances of lung cancer ?

Stupid argument.
