Is there anything stopping someone from purchasing a SSD meant for a 2011 Macbook Air and putting it into a 2012 Air? I believe they are physically the same size but am wondering if there is some firmware difference that would prevent the 2011 SSD from working.

OWC has a good summary of what works on what. Check the SSD section where is outlines that you generally need to buy SSD specifically for a model. They are not multichangable because the connectors are different and also the drive controllers are different and the SATA speeds are different across models.

The SSDs from 2011 are SATA II and the 20112 disks are SATA III. Otherwise, the connectors ARE different : http://blog.macsales.com/14040-new-2012-macs-means-new-owc-ssd-designs

Thanks guys, I thought they might use the same connector and wanted to check before I bought a SSD
