I noticed the new iMac has an x after the video card versus the 2017 model. So is the 570X in the 2019 iMac the same as the 570 in the 2017 iMac and is the X just there to confuse me or is there a performance boost if so how much? Otherwise I might just pick up a refurbished model from 2017 if there is no difference in the video.

Thanks, it looks like it's a small bump in performance, about 2-3 %

Some of the result indications are that these 7__X GPUs are basically just 12nm shrinks from the 14nm version and that Apple is using them for cooler operating temperatures about as much as a performance increase. So if throw loads of work at them they don't heat up as much. ( They aren't goosed to squeak out as much performance as possible at whatever higher temperature that would reach. ). Incrementally better and cooler..... which with zero changes to the overall enclosure cooing system is probably a net 'win'. (Especially, long term . )

The X series can be clocked a bit higher due to improvements in the manufacturing process. They also appear to run a bit cooler thanks to these process improvements.
