Hello.
I have the late 2013 baseline MacBook Pro Retina Display with 8 GB of Ram.
So, as today the new rMBP with 16 GB of Ram were announced, I feel a little bummed since I paid the same price for only half of the Ram.
So my question is how much of a difference is between 8 and 16 GB ?
I guess I won't upgrade to the new model but how long will 8 GB last ? I want to keep it for at least 4 years.

Absolutely no difference for 99% of the computing public. The people who genuinely would notice a difference probably already know who they are.

The difference is exactly 8GB of RAM.

Depending on your usage, which you failed to mention, it may, or may not, be of any use to you.

It's unbelievable how many RAM threads are still getting made eh

Nope, not unbelievable at all. That doesn't show as a sticky for me. People don't search around here and why would they bother? They'll get answers all the same if you ask me. I used to care but now I hope for hundreds of the same threads, it looks good for the corporation that runs this joint.

you are right. They also like individual advise and folks are more than happy to give it.

In the same boat, but being honest with myself, I simply don't need 16GB of RAM. Even with my worst peak usage test, I still couldn't get the memory pressure into the orange, and even at my worst I still couldn't get higher than a 12 or 13 on the RAM wiki quiz Meister linked to.

Oh I know - It's double the amount!

am i right? Am I? :p

Judging by the fact that you don't know the difference between 8 and 16 gigs of ram, you probably only need 8. 16 really (almost) only is for pro usage and if you needed it, you probably would've known. I get that you're bummed out but I'm 99% positive you'll be happy for another 4 years with your Macbook, so just chill and enjoy your pc :)

i agree. Even the ssd buying guide is a sticky.

You drive this train buddy...all you have to do is ask a mod. No more wishing, hoping, crossing your fingers...make it happen. It's really that simple.

FYI OP: 8 GB will be more than enough for a few years but if I recall, we can't replace our own ram anymore, right?

Ok. Can a mod please make the "How much ram do i need" wiki a sticky?

Meister, didn't I make a thread a month or two ago to ask for sticky RAM thread?(it got put in Wasteland by a mod BTW) Haven't I asked for a RAM sticky in MULTIPLE THREADS?

I'm kind of bummed about it too, my 15" Iris Pro model is barely two months old.

I don't plan on doing anything about it, I just wish I waited a little (because honestly there was no rush...) and brought now. Slightly cheaper, slight speed bump and double the RAM.

Oh well.

What is the difference between one meal or two meals? It depends on your hunger.

The same applies to RAM but since you're asking I bet you don't need 16GB.
