Difference between iOS and Mac app stores?

I am doing a research on iOS and Mac app stores. I think some of you are users or developers for both stores. Can you guys share your thoughts or ideas about the difference between the two stores?

As a mac user, do you use mac app store as your main source for softwares or u still prefer to purchase them from their websites?
