hey guys. i am a mac noob and i was just wondering what is the real difference between MacBook and MacBook (Late 2008)? The same goes for MacBook Pros.

Is there a spec difference between the two or is it purely a release date difference thing? What is the actual time boundary that distinguishes between mbp's and mbp late 2008's? (eg Aug. 08 and before = mbp; Sep. 08 and after = mbp late 2008?)

finally, how can i figure out whether my mbp is late 2008 or not? does it say somewhere like in "about this mac"?

"Late 2008" refers to the generation of Apple laptops released on Oct 14th, 2008, as opposed to the earlier releases. The late 08 models are notable for using a new enclosure design (called the "unibody", the whole machine is made from a single hollowed out block of metal), and for having etched-glass "buttonless' trackpads (the pad is the button). They also have black "chicklit" keys (with a backlight on all but the cheaper macbook), and an all-glass LED-lit display.

A difference is that the Late 2008 MBP have two graphics Nvidia 9400M and 9600GT. and the trackpad is larger than the old models:apple:

MB Pre-Late 2008:

Regular trackpad
Regular display without LED backlit
Regular keyboard
Crappy graphics card
Polycarbonate

MB Late 2008

Glass trackpad
Corner-to-corner glass screen with LED backlit
Black keyboard with optional backlit
nVidia graphics card
Aluminum unibody

MBP is about the same, new keyboard, glass trackpad, glass screen with LED backlit, unibody, 2 graphics cards, etc.
