Difference between paypal gift and normal purchase?

What is the difference between sending a paypal gift besides the difference in fees? Is there a drawback to using a gift rather than the normal payment? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

A gift doesn't incure paypal fees on either side. Paying normally has fees, but you also get "paypal protection" in some scenarios.

If you're sending money to someone and have some general trust, people generally just do gift. However if you're dealing with a physical item and are paying for it, I'd go with the regular sending method.

Although you have to pay a..3 percent I think it is? fee, you have protection if things go sour.
