Is there any difference from which country you buy the iPhone from ? Or is it just a matter if it's unlocked or not ? I was thinking of buying an iPhone from the apple store in china but would it be the same if i had bought it in the Apple Store in US ?

Some countries have restrictions to comply with laws in those countries.

FOR EXAMPLE: iPhones bought in Japan will make the camera click when you take a picture, even if the silence switch is on. This is because Japan requires phones to make a sound when you take a picture. Apparently they have a huge problem with people taking creepy shots in public.

So I'm curious how this is enforced with iOS updates.
I remember in the blackberry days people would flash foreign firmware to get around the US carrier preloaded craptastic bloatware and/or obtain a new version ahead of it's domestic release. That doesn't seem to be the case with Apple as far as I've seen.
Is it something embedded in the IPSW that checks against the model number and adjusts behavor accordingly?
