Difference in RAM cost?

What am I missing here...

adding 2 gb (2x1) to a first gen mac pro at crucial is $125 http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=0F893FE9A5CA7304

adding the same thing at OWC is $75 http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other World Computing/53FB1MPK02GB/

How can that be? Is heat spreader on OWC RAM crappy or something?

I don't see a difference - the voltage is the same, the CAS values are the same. The OWC memory has a lifetime warranty, too.

They are very different companies with different customer bases. Crucial is just the brand Micron use for their own DIMMs (they produce the DRAM chips used by many companies), OWC are a reseller. OWC also appear to use their low memory pricing as a way to drive traffic.

Well is it still good quality RAM? In the past when I've checked prices, the two don't have that much of a difference in price.

I use OWC ram in my 2008 8-core and it's been great, no problems or issues at all.

No quality difference that will affect you and no real reason to not buy from OWC.
