Is anyone aware of the differences between two SSD drives, the Samsung 850evo 2.5" 500GB and the Samsung 840evo 2.5" 500GB ?

Yeah, the 840 EVO has terrible firmware that causes it to slow down after a few months' use.

Suppose i purchase the 850evo, is there something i must be careful of to notice? Perhaps the if it is the latest version etc.?

I think the 850 EVO is a safe choice. Personally, I'm so totally p*ssed off at how Samsung handled the 840 EVO that I have been buying Crucial SSDs since then but that's mostly just being really annoyed at Samsung.

Why were you annoyed by the way Samsung handled the 840evo case, what did they do? Ive missed this thing.

Just google "840 evo firmware issue" and you'll see that Samsung totally botched the 840 EVO, they have issued two firmware updates when what Samsung truly should have done was recall the 840 EVO and issue every owner with a replacement 850 EVO.

Whatever you do, do NOT touch the 840 EVO with a barge pole....

What he wrote. Denial and delay and ultimately no fix. A pox on their house (as if that sentiment proves anything...)
