iPhone XS Different between XS and XS max

I wonder - why there is performance different between the XS MAX and XS?
(XS MAX is slightly better)
Both has the same A12, no?

but if you look at performance test,the XS MAX is always slightly higher

I don't know why, as hardware inside is identical. I do not think that slight difference will reflect in real world usage.
