Hey everyone, i just finished downloading a movie which is a .mkv file. I opened up VLC media player to play it and all i get is audio, no video. I have to find the right codec for it to work. Anyone have a clue. If it won't work on mac, i could always use my pc.

Is quicktime able to tell you what the codec is called like the full name in show movie info. Also i have never heard of .mkv
If you can find what the codecs name is you should be able to find a plugin for it.

I have a newer version of VLC. 0.7.2

I'm trying to avoid installing codec because i'd rather run it on my mac. Plus all these different codecs are annoying and i have no idea what i'm doing. Is there any way just to simply open the file in osx?

I just tried openeing the file in quick time. It won't even allow me to click the file and attemp to open it.

I think you can get a Mac CODEC for VLC from here as it lists OSX at the top...

I already have VLC on my mac. From what i've been reading. VLC doesn't require codec to open files. I don't know why this isn't working. All i get is audio, no video.

Which codecs am i supposed to install??? I have VLC on my mac. Thats all installed so far. It runs most movies. What else so i need. Sorry i sound like a retard but i'm lost.
