Different conversations for iMessage and regular text message?

So I have one conversation going to a friend to his apple id
I have another conversation going to a friend through his cell phone number

Both show up as different conversations on the phone. Any jailbroken way to merge the two? I added his apple id to the contacts but it still doesn't work

No, because you're sending a text to the phone number and an iMessage to his AppleID. Apple sees that as you messaging different contacts. I agree they should be together but, as of now, it's not possible.

Just quit using the one via SMS and use only iMessage thread.
After a couple of days, will it really matter what is on the SMS thread.
