I have an individual subscription to Apple Music.

Recently I noticed I can play different music on different HomePods at the same time. Is this new?

For example, right now I am playing music from an iPad to my HomePod in the living room.

At the same time I’m playing music directly from HomePod minis in the bedroom and kitchen.

None of the music I’m playing is in my library and I’ve not downloaded or purchased it so it’s all streaming from Apple Music.

I guess it’s maybe always been like this and I just didn’t notice?

when it launched, a hompod didn't count against the simultaneous number of streams you are allowed to have. That was supposed to have changed last year, but they might have rolled it back

also if you're on a family plan, you can have multiple streams. Not quite sure how it works, if it's limited to 6 streams per family group, or each sub-account in the group has one stream,
