Ok, for those sick of all the MacBook Pro heat panic threads, I've got a different heat question: My 17" MBP gets toasty on the metal strip up above the keyboard, but it runs fine and I have no complaints about the heat.
However, I just bought myself one of those thin, transparent silicon keyboard covers to keep junk from getting down between the keys--due to health problems washing my hair is difficult, so I'm sheding dandruf and hair at an alarming rate. Figure it might also keep the keyboard from rubbing against the screen, although that doesn't seem to be an issue with the 17" design.
I'm wondering, though: I'm pretty sure that old PowerBooks (G3 era) used the keyboard area to dump heat, and I'm wondering if any of the people who've gotten all anal about where heat is being transfered, built-up, or dumped inside their MPBs know if this is still the case. If so, I'm afraid that covering the area with a silicon sheet will prevent it from doing so properly, though I've read that this isn't an issue.
I'm sort of guessing it's not a problem since the keyboard just doesn't get that warm, but since the above-keyboard area gets pretty toasty I do wonder.
Opinions?
