I am on a 2016 15" MBP, 2.9Ghz.

I am using a SanDisk Extreme 64 GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive ( SDCZ80-064G-X46 ) to test my various dongles.

None of the dongles are reaching the speed of the flash drive that I am getting on a 2013 15" MBP.

Usually I see ~200MB/sec read and write speeds on regular use.

When I use usb-c to usb3.0 dongle I am getting around 80-90mb/sec and with the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter I am getting ~50mb/sec if I am lucky...

Funny thing is transfer freezes at every 200-250mb transfer for a 3-4 sec and continues again...

I have updated the firmwares of these dongles already, it took foreverrrr after the 203kb update restart...

I have a pair of each kind of dongles, and all behave the same on different ports...

So far only USB-c to Thunderbolt 2 dongles works ok, I am able to use my TB-to-Ethernet and Thunderbolt Display without any problem :)

No, they are not dongles. Dongles are devices in themselves. Things like authentication devices or devices to provide wifi access or provide wireless access to another device.

Adapters are things that convert one type of connector to another.

Sounds like someone is sensitive about his dongle. :D
:)

OK guys, we have something going on here!

Today I received my Google USB-C to USB3.0 dongle, and there is no freezing, slowing down problems with this adapter and flash drive! It just works as fast as on my 2013 MacBook Pro.

And the color of the dongle is is black, much better match to my space gray model.

Original accessories don't work as they suppose to work, and third party accessories works perfectly fine! WTF?

It's not a dongle.

You obviously didn't read the dictionary definition I posted earlier...

Ignore the headline. Read the story. It says "adapters and cables."

Look up the definition of dongle. These aren't dongles. Just because people like to use the term because it sounds funny doesn't make it true.

Wow, you are right, when I READ the article you come out being correct!!!

That is, until today. Tim Cook has left his mark on Apple, but it’s not the company’s iPhone, iPad, or Mac products that distinguish him from his predecessor — it’s the dongles.

None of Apple’s newest laptops can connect to its own flagship smartphones without using a dongle or purchasing a separate cable that doesn’t otherwise ship with any of Apple’ s hardware.

I’ve got nothing against dongles.

well.... 46 times that 1 article says the word DONGLE, and 6 Adapter....
I guess you are correct. ;)

Except that is not how the world works. Words change meaning all the time and dictionaries gets updated with the new meaning. If enough of the demographic change the use of the word, it will be the new world order.

I.e. Nice once meant "foolish, silly, simple"

2016, the year Trump got elected and Apple changed the word dongle forever.
