Different uses for Dell s2408w display.

I just ordered the Dell s2408w monitor to pair with my 13" MBP. I was looking at some reviews and YouTube vids yesterday. I saw a lot of videos demonstrating this particular monitor with the PS3. Why is this monitor a popular choice for the PS3?

What additional cables would I need to do this? HDMI?

I think it is a popular choice for it's size and connectivity. There are many people that have their PS3 connected in their room or office and don't have a TV to connect it to - so it kills two birds with one stone.
