different watch faces on phone app and watch?

I've now got different watch faces on my iphone app and watch2? And they are only few in number. And what i set on the iphone always defaults to only one face on the watch. All systems have the most up to date software, and other complications all work. Just the watch faces are not changeable? Is this a defective watch?

I had this problem and repairing my watch fixed it. Everything is in sync now.
