Difficulties with finders menu

Since ''Lion'' I have difficulties using my finders window. The only way I can see it if I stroll with mission control between desktops. It appears for a short time between the two desktops and then disappears. Can anyone advice me how to solve this situation? Many thanks, Gerard

What happens when you click on Finder in the dock? Does a window appear?
Does the menubar change to Finder?

no it doesn't! it appears only briefly when i use application menu or when i switch desktops it appear briefly between desk tops - and then disappears
