I have a MacBook (purchased April, 2007) running Mac OS X 10.6.4.
Today, I installed the latest iTunes update and Security Update 2010-006.
Before installing this update, I was listening to my Mac's internal speakers. The update prompted me to restart the machine. I restarted. Immediately after restarting, the red light in the headphone jack came on, and my Mac thinks I am using Digital Audio--there is NO option for internal speakers.
When I insert my headphones, I get audio through the headphones. I can insert a digital audio plug and get sound from that, but I cannot get sound out of my internal speakers, even after several reboots.
I searched on teh interwebz, and I found several cases of damaged headphone jacks, but I don't see anything for problems with an update causing this.
I am thinking of using TimeMachine to roll back to before the update, but before I do, I want to see if I can make this work first.
Any help, please?
