I just recently got a 5.1 stereo system for my apartment (Sony HT-SS2300 Component Home Theater System), and I have a 32" Samsung LCD, so I decided to try to play my high def movies from my computer on the tv/stereo. So I ordered a 3m Toslink-to-Optical Mini Plug Digital Cable to run from my headphone jack on my laptop to the optical input on the stereo. I just got it and tried it out for the first time today, and I'm experiencing a few problems.
For all of my other inputs, 12-16 is a comfortable volume. When I tried the optical input, I didn't think it was working at first. Then I cranked it up, and I could finally hear it at around 35 on the volume dial, which for my other inputs, would be unbearably loud. Despite the high volume level, the audio did sound good, until the first time I got some feedback. Every 20 or 30 seconds I pick up a very loud buzzing sound, that only lasts a half a second or so. It's very loud though, about how loud you would expect that high on the volume dial.
So one, it doesn't seem right that I have to turn the stereo volume up ridiculously high just to hear the optical audio coming from my MBP, does it? Secondly, what could be causing the feedback? Thanks!
