Digital Camera Compatibility

I have a Panasonic digital video camera that is not compatible with my eMac. Do I need to replace it to edit footage on my camera? Or is there a "VCR" type accessory that will upload the footage onto my computer? I already called Panasonic and they told me that the camera cannot work with my computer!
