Digital Gallery on TV

I am looking to display photographs and videos on a TV as a digital gallery for my students. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to best accomplish this? My current thought is to create a DVD with the photos and videos I want to display and then play the looping DVD. Am I better off looking at a scheduling software similar to what a TV station would use? Any suggestions on software?

I have a Playstation 3 at, home.

Download (or even stream) Pictures to it and let it make the slide shows. Might be overkill for your needs tho
