Digital Out system sounds

Hi,

I just recently switched to outputting via digital (mini to toslink) to my speakers from my MBP. I've noticed that when anything program (VLC, iTunes, Quicktime) is sending audio, iChat doesn't output any sound. Is this normal?

Actually, even with no other app using audio, iChat sounds still don't play.

I think I solved the problem. Soundflower causes some kind of conflict. Uninstalling it seems to have taken care of the issue.
