digital pictures app fails

i tried to transfer iphone 5 pictures (iOS 8) to yosemite macbook pro - did not work at all, moreover pics were deleted in iphone ... lost pictures.
the process worked without problems with mavericks, after upgrading to yosemite - failure. anyone had similar experience?
