I am currently undertaking a lot of interviews for a research project and record them all on an Olympus DVR. It is a very basic model and i have not external mic or anything. When i play the interviews back on my mac there is a lot of background noise and degradation in voice quality, especially when the interviewee is being quiet.

So to my question: Is there any free software out there with some kind of filter to get rid of the background noise and possibly make the the voices more clear.

Cheers

ah, the dreaded camera mic sound. there's not much hope in saving it. get yourself an external mic, learn how to place it, and move on.

Soundtrack Pro is pretty good at removing background noise. It just depends on how bad the noise is and what type it is.
